If a property could ever sum up the Spanish dream for most people then this house is the one.
The amazing house has been extended several times to now offer all of the space that you could ever want.
Not only is there a huge glazed veranda overlooking the pool, the orchard and the mountains. There is a huge second lounge with chill out area, full size pool table, dart area, karaoke zone and then a beautiful Spanish bar built with ornate terracotta bricks. Most people are looking for inside and outside entertainment areas in their Spanish home, and they don´t come any better than this. This area is literally as big as many homes. All of this overlooks the pool area with vast windows, and is, also protected from direct sunlight by electric blinds. There is heating from a large pellet burner and having so many windows this room benefits from the low winter sun. Apart from this there are two hot and cold air-conditioning units.
This area also has one complete bathroom with shower.
If you were prepared to have a “normal” size games room then an additional three bedrooms could easily be partitioned off to give a 6 bedroom three bathroom house.
However the house already has three good size bedroom, the main one having an attractive en suite bathroom with bath, shower screen, and twin sinks.
There is one further communal bathroom with wet room.
The kitchen is fully equipped, it has plenty of work surface and units. The main lounge/ dining room (which is actually the third living area) is also spacious and has another pellet burner ??
The outside space consists of a concrete driveway, and parking area with double pergola for parking. There are low maintenance gravel areas, a good mix of Mediterranean trees and bushes. Mature olive trees of high production, and also many almond trees. there is irrigation to the garden etc, and the water is very cheap. Vast terraced area. Private terrace around the 8x 4 pool. The pool has a telescopic cover which helps allow a much longer season for using the pool. part of this area also has an attractive wall which apart from guaranteeing privacy, provides protection from the wind.
There is an outside shower for the pool, and a back door to the bathroom next to the bar is ideal for bathers to use.
As well as having air conditioning in the games area, the main house is preinstalled with ducting to deliver air conditioning everywhere.
There are two small annexes, one of which is used as a laundry room, and the other offer storage space.
The gate is motorised, and has an intercom for visitors to use.
Total House size 280m2. Kennels, and large fenced dog run.
Locations don’t come much better either, The property is located half way between the two popular villages of Sax and Salinas. 4 minutes is enough to drive to either. This area is largely regarded as the best area in Salinas, long days of sunshine with spectacular sunsets. With a large south facing roof this is the perfect place to add solar panels, and a pool heater to use the pool all year.
What about Sax ? I’ve been here 18 years and, although I’ve built up many friends and contacts, you too can soon do this. It’s a relatively small town so local people soon start recognising you and both Spanish and ex pats embrace newcomers, and offer help in many areas. There are various facebook groups where you will benefit from the experience of others making your new life easy to adapt to.
Most famous for its castle, but also the birthplace of Alberto Sols a famous chemist, successful sportspersons, authors, musicians, and the incredible Moros and Christians festival which celebrates their patron saint…. The beloved San Blas.
I say it’s a relatively small place, but Sax has everything that you really need. A selection of supermarkets including Consum that stocks international foods, as well as a fantastic fresh fish counter, vast range of cheeses, vegetables and cured meats, as well as the typical items that you would hope to find in any major supermarket chain.
I didn’t mention meat or bread etc, wherever possible I like to support the smaller local businesses, and you will find some fantastic butcherers, and bakers within the town where you will get a more personal service, and build up a relationship with the owners, staff and clients.
If you are worried about how you will manage with the Spanish health system, then worry no more. Sax has a 24-hour medical centre with English some speaking doctors and nurses, so does the Elda hospital which is only 5 minute drive away from Sax. There is of course an ambulance service based within the town. The standard of health care here is excellent.
Transport links don’t come much better than in Sax either. There is a regular bus service heading to one town inland (Villena, that then loops back and passes through several towns on the way back to where it started in Alicante). For less than 5 euros you can travel in a comfortable airconditioned bus to A licante and be there in less than an hour. We are also just 7km from the high-speed railway station of Santa Eualia (Villena) where you can catch a train to Madrid or Alicante and arrive incredibly quickly. Perfect for a day out in the Spanish capital.
There is also a train station in Sax, but that is for the traditional line that doesn’t go as quick, and has a few stops, but it’s incredibly handy to get you into the centre of Alicante, and again is low cost.
Do you like culture, history, art, theatre ? Sax has no shortage of these either. The town has a theatre, and a newly built auditorium. The Saxonians celebrate their rich culture on many occasions throughout the year, with the pinnacle being 5 days of the Moors and Christians festival in February, something that really needs to be seen to be believed. From the re-enactment of Conquests and Victory celebrations from many years again with blunderbusses and cannons firing in the streets, with all participants in ancient military costume it really is a spectacular event. Then there are the “Cuartalillos” which a group owned buildings owned by revellers which ae filled with food and drinks and offer a base for the days (and nights) of celebrations. There is no greater honour for members to invite guests to eat and drink with them. For sure at some time you will be invited, just don’t make the mistake of offering to pay, as your hosts will be most disappointed. They save all year to have the privilege of inviting people.
Even after 18 years here I don’t know what all of the fiestas are, it just becomes a part of life to walk down the street one day and find a few hundred people in costume or doing activities which their great grandparents and relatives before then also did. The carnival is more recent but things like the burial of the Sardines and the day where almost all of the town walks to the mountain to pick a sprig of fresh Rosemary have been done for many years. Suffice to say although you may not know what is quite happening in some of the fiestas, they are always good fun, and nearly always end up with some alcohol consumption !
Speaking of which there are almost 50 bars within the town, many serving tapas food, menus of the day which area aimed at providing hearty food to the workers for exceptional prices. 10 euros can buy a 3-course meal in many places, and often include, beer, wine of coffee. If you ask for wine and they put a bottle on the table…don’t feel you need to drink it all. Wine here is cheap, and they are happy for you to drink however much you want and charge accordingly. From basic restaurants to more classy places, you have everything here.
Although Salinas is a smaller village there is a large ex pat community that have mixed well with the locals. There are many community events shared by everyone, and a fantastic sports centre. friendly bars, and good restaurants. It is probably impossible to find a cleaner town, and the town hall is the friendliest that I have ever come across in Spain.
If you choose to live or invest here you will find that it is an ever-increasingly popular place, apart from the things already mentioned there is a great climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. This is without the high humidity of the coast, and the inferno type temperatures suffered by the interior of Spain in summer. We are just over half an hour from Alicante International Airport, and fantastic beaches, and the beautiful cosmopolitan city of Alicante
